How to use a hair stick

It can be very windy here in San Francisco, and it has ruined my hair more than once.
It's so easy to pull my hair back with a hair stick
and it doesn't leave a funny mark in my hair like a hair tie does.
This is the one hair accessory I can't live without!

1. Gently bring hair into a side ponytail at the nape of your neck.

2. Twist hair while lifting ponytail upwards.

3. Holding end of ponytail with one hand, cup the twist with the other hand.
Wrap ponytail around cupped hand, twisting gently as you go, creating a bun.

4 Insert hair stick straight up through bun.

5. Rotate stick, same direction as bun.
Secure stick by sliding tip through small amount of hair at nape of neck.

6. A second stick can be inserted in same direction as first.
Create an "X" by inserting second stick in opposite direction.

This works great with a pencil too.
You can make your own hair sticks by cutting off the top off of a pair of chopsticks with a Dremel.
But hey, if you don't feel like being crafty, you can purchase a pair of dark brown wooden hair sticks from my etsy shop.

Sneak Preview of Cloak and Dagger's Fall Line

Cloak and Dagger clothing is out of my price range,
but I love to look at their designs for inspiration.
Check out their spring/summer line at cloakanddaggernyc.com

If you live in San Francisco, you can purchase Cloak and Dagger clothing at

Modern geometric prints are timeless and ageless.
This dress has great, fall inspired colors.
You can buy rust colored nylon/lycra tights at welovecolors.com for $10.

I like the combination of dark blue and black.
Classic.

This dress is beautiful. The tights look like they're made of silk.
Gorgeous!

This look is totally achievable with a fitted, neutral sweater dress.
If you're crafty, pick up an oversize,
fine-knit sweater at Goodwill and take in the sides.
Add a slim and sleek leather belt, colorful tights, and high heels.
Hot!

With the right jacket, this would be a great New Years Eve look.
Great details, the long silk bow,
the black fringe that dangles on the hips of the dress.
The gold sequin scarf looks like a fine necklace.
The tights have a vintage feel.
sockdreams.com has crochet tights in ivory for $20.
Gotta love peep-toes.
Sexy!

Internet Eye Candy

I was browsing fashion sites today and one of my new favorites is aquascutum.com. Their spring/summer collection for 2009 is beautiful and inspiring. It has a classic vintage feel.

I also love pepejeans.com. They have a line of clothing and accessories
inspired by the artwork of Andy Warhol. Bright colors and graphic prints reminiscent of the 80's, with a cool, modern twist. No neon!

Milla Jovovich has created an absolutely gorgeous, feminine and sexy clothing line with Carmen Hawk.
jovovich-hawk.com Check out their designs for inspiration before hitting the thrift stores.

Pamela Thompson used to be head designer at Betsey Johnson and Heatherette. She's got some adorable, quirky designs for sale on etsy.com. I look forward to seeing more from her!
